Lawrence Steinman M.D.

Lawrence Steinman is a professor of neurology and neurological sciences, pediatrics, and genetics at Stanford University Medical School. Dr. Steinman has received numerous honors and awards, including election to the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine. He is the recipient of the John Dystel Prize from the American Academy of Neurology and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for his research on MS, the Charcot Award from the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation, and the Anthony Cerami Award in Translational Medicine from Molecular Medicine.  

Dr. Steinman holds several patents in the areas of immunology, type 1 diabetes, and MS. He cofounded Neurocrine Biosciences, Bayhill Therapeutics (now Tolerion), Nuon Therapeutics, Transparency Life Sciences, and Atreca. He was a director of Centocor from 1988 until its sale to Johnson & Johnson in 1999.
