There are no approved therapies indicated specifically for the treatment DbCM. Health care providers are limited to trying to prevent heart failure in patients with DbCM. Health care providers counsel patients on ways to reduce risk factors for worsening heart failure. However, these do not address the underlying cause of DbCM. Patients are advised to:

  • Make lifestyle modifications
  • Manage their high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Reduce their levels of bad fats in the body (dyslipidemia)
  • Reduce high blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia)
  • Maintain kidney function, including keeping an eye on high levels of albumin in the urine (albuminuria)
